Art by Céline Nordberg
In my art, I use the flower as a reference to ourselves and the beauty we wish to project. The flower represents the polished, appealing side of our personalities—the parts we want the world to see and admire. However, when I add a shadow to the flower, it symbolizes the darker aspects of ourselves—the shadow sides we often deny or try to hide from others. These shadows represent the less “perfect” parts of our personalities, the feelings and traits we suppress or keep buried because they don’t align with the image we wish to convey.
The interplay between the flower and its shadow reflects the duality within us all: the light we embrace and the darkness we conceal. Through this juxtaposition, my work invites the viewer to explore the complexity of human nature and to consider how much of our true selves we reveal versus how much we keep hidden.
